A Drive in Oklahoma City

We didn't have anything special planned for today so we just thought that we would do a little drive around Oklahoma City to get our bearings for the week.  Now when you're driving down the street and you see a sign that sez “World of Wings-Pigeon Center” you just have to make a U-turn and go back to see what it is.  It was only about a thirty minute stop but I 'm sure glad that we did.  It is a very small independent museum that tells the story of the Homing Pigeon, this may not sound to interesting but read a few of the things below to find out about how important the Homing pigeon was to the war efforts during the World Wars.  They were used by the military for many different purposes with amazing results, read away and find out for yourself.

I remember the movie "Lost Battalion" and this bird was a  major part of it.

After this on our drive we started spotting signs for the Oklahoma City Memorial, we had planned this for later in the week but figured since we were this close that we might as well stop.

We were on street level with all the noise of a big city downtown area, we walked thru the 9:02 gate and down the stairs to the reflecting pool and all of a sudden all the street noises were gone, it was just quiet and very peaceful. We spent about 45 minutes walking around reading the information and taking in what had happen there, we were going to tour the museum but I understand that it's a very saddening experience so we past on that this trip.
