Planes, Trains and Automobiles

Another beautiful day in St Louis, a little chilly but sunny so we can live with that. Today we drove over to the Museum of Transportation ( www.transportmuseumassociation.org ), they have a few sections that are just for kids so there were a few family's there today but not crowded. There is an automotive building that had some very nice and unusual exhibits, they change some of the cars every few months, the theme this month was Route 66.

Notice the name of the Movie

Interesting how the Interstate system killed all the small businesses on
Route 66

Always wanted one of these.
White 55, Black 56.

I had a 57 but it wasn't as nice as this one and it was a hardtop.

This is the story about the car on the right.

This is the Chrysler turbine, they made 55 of them and as the sign points out they were given to random people to test drive for them. My neighbor was one of the 55 chosen to test the vehicle so I got to ride in it quite a few times of course I didn't realize what it was at the time.

These were part of the Route 66 stuff about how people were hitting the road and camping out. They even had a Nash were the back seat unfolded into a double bed, but I couldn't get a good picture of it.

After spending about an hour inside we headed out to the railroad yard. The only place that I can think of where I saw more trains gathered in one place is the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn Michigan, but they had a fantastic variety of different engines and cars. Cathy and I are not big train people and we really enjoyed it, so if you're a train nut this would me a must see.

Everything form huge to tiny

This looks like two engines back to back but it's really all one engine as explained in the sign to the right.

This sign and train are color coded so that you can see the different systems, water, steam, oil and such.

Some of the stranger stuff.

And the snow removal stuff, the thing on the right is a 12 foot diameter snow blower.

After this we programed the GPS to take us to a Five Guys Burger and Fries, (different but as good as Culver's). We were stuffed when we came out and we only ate half of one order of fries, when Cathy spotted a Whole Foods Market across the parking lot. We have only been to one before and that was in Sarasota Florida where they had valet parking, this one wasn't quite as fancy but it was still very pricey. We did find the Semolina flour that we have looking for so I can try my new super secret pizza dough recipe.

Gotta rest up for tomorrow.

They did have two planes there , hence the name of the blog.

I always enjoy seeing the Route 66 memorabilla. Too bad so much of the road is long gone.
